Advantages: Good story, good actors
Disadvantages: none really
... when I was just a young nipper, me old dad took me to see a new film that had just been released. Now, I was only about 7 at the time, and so, my knowledge of cinematic entertainment was patchy to say the least. But, as a special treat, I was dragged off to the flicks to see this new "Star Wars" movie. Boy, did my dad ever regret doing that! Brushes were ambushed as we returned to the house to be used as light sabers as I ran around the house being Luke Skywalker. Anyway, who here doesn't know about Star Wars? Apart from my sisters boyfriend, but he's already shown his lack of good taste, so he doesn't count :P It's a good old space adventure with good versus evil, told from the viewpoint (to an extent) of two droids (R2D2, and C3PO [cunningly named after a post office, in map square C3 fact fans]). Personally, I like the story a lot - funny, exciting and tense in places, building to an explosive climax (literally!) The dialogue in places is a bit strange using really technical terms which must have a nightmare for the likes of Harrison Ford to use, but the plot and special effects and actors more than made up fir this (very minor) deficiency. Basically, the Rebellion, in the shape of Princess Leia, has stolen the plans of the Empires secret weapon the Death Star, led by Darth Vader the evil Empire tries to get the plans back. Luke Skywalker, a farm boy, gets involved with Ben Kenobi, a old jedi knight (people with "magic" powers) and together they set of to deliver the plans to the Rebellion. Along the way they meet up with Han Solo, a roguish pirate character. Upon arriving at where they thought they should be, they discover that the planet has been destroyed by the Death Star. Upon being taken into the giant space ship, they learn of the Princess's captivity on board, and rescue her. After fleeing the Death star, Han Solo delivers hte Princess, and Luke Skywalker to the rebel base wh
ere the death Star is bearing down upon them... in a last desperate hope, thy launch an attack, and hope that it will be enough... Now in it's remastered versions, it's a must have for science fiction fans, and families alike. Good story telling always shines through and we can always look forward to whatever George Lucas has to offer (even if it does have Jar Jar Binks in it). There are four now in the series, with a fifth surely only a matter of months away (somewhere around September/Xmas I'm led to believe) it's truly a great saga, as well as being a great piece of film-making.

- 28/05/01 I think I've just read the update you made after the comments below, right? Only I found this to be an excellent first (or second) stab at opinion writing. After a while, you'll catch yourself writing longer and longer ops, and before you know it - crowns are on their way. Keep up the good form, and good luck for the future - if you have any questions or problems, give me a mail.

- 15/05/01 You just confused me even more about Star Wars. I'm not a fan anyway but would have liked read more about the film itself and special effects. |
