Advantages: star wars, great effects
Disadvantages: some cheesy dialogue, not rated like the originals
This is the most fantastically presented DVD I have ever owned. Managing to get my self one before the release date was definitely worthwhile. The DVD box looks Star Wars, from the spine to the front cover and then... when you open it up. Phenomenal!! words can not describe how I felt as you look at the two discs. Its the best resented DVd release I've ever owned and when you put the discs in your player it just gets better. There are fantastic special features and a wide range of extras - but I'll come to that soon. The menus on the first disc are awesome, the theme music playing in the background as the disc starts just makes you feel great. When you select play the movie and begin to watch the film its great - if you have surround sound or a widescreen TV (or both) its one of the best things ever. The surround mix is great and the picture quality is out of this world - over all and excellent film on an excellent disc. The second disc is a real treat if you like extra features, it does NOT dissapoint. Making Of Star Wars Documentary The making Star Wars documentary is the best behind the scenes documentary I've ever seen - its worthwhile buying these discs just for that - like when Rick McCallum is on the phone to Ewan McGregor and Ewan tells him that hes gonna do the film - it shows you how much preparation goes into making the film. The documentary is an hour long and starts with the storyboards up on the wallwith George Lucas sketching whats going to be CGI and whats going to be real life effects. It ends with Mr Lucas writting the first page of script for Episode II and goes through model making, casting, computer effects, storyboarding, directing, acting, stunts, Ewan McGregor choosing his Light-sabre, budget, make-up and costume (including the make-up girl asking Mr McGregor what his name was...)- EVERYTHING you can think of. The deleted scenes - finished specially for the DVD are great also with Geo
rge Lucas and Co telling you why each scene was deleted - for time reasons, because it doesn;t fit with the story etc. here is a lot of extended scenes from the Pod Race and others from Naboo and Coruscant etc, definitely worth looking at especially with the comments made by the director, producer etc making you realise how hard it is to edit a film well. There are stills of Posters and Billborads for the films promotional run, each shown in the two or three different styles that it was released in (ie sqaure, horizontally long, bigger on width etc) and the different Star Wars movie posters in all the different languages. there is the Music video of John Williams score, showing the Orchestra at work and more behind the scenes footage yet again - well worth a look, it sounds great. Finally the trailers on the extra disc are great and really give you the urge to watch the film again and again. On the downside of this DVD is the fact that it, unfortunately isn't as good as the original Star Wars trilogy - according to some people, though I always find myself a whole lot more immersed in this film than the first ones. Also, the price is a bit on the steep side - thouh I'm sure you can find it cheaper at online retailers etc - I did. Overall its a QUALITY package and well worth buying ASAP!!!
