Advantages: Good performances
Disadvantages: None really
I really enjoyed this film which was a bit of a surprise as I'm not really a big fan of either Russel Crowe or Ben Afleck the two stars of the film.
Afleck plays Congressman Stephen Collins whose political fortunes take a nose dive when he admits to having a affair with a recently deceased researcher who worked for him. Crowe plays a political reporter, Cal MacAffrey whose own investigation into the death of a low life criminal leads him into a large political conspiracy that involves Collins. There is a connection between Cal and Collins as they were room mates at university together.
This is a taut political thriller that has a number of plot twists and moves along at a fast pace, I found the time really flew by while watching it and found it to be entertaining and engrossing to watch.
Both the two leads were excellent in the roles and helped remind me of why they are big Hollywood stars. Crowe especially was very good and Affleck shone in his role.
I felt that more could have been made of Helen Mirren as the boss of Cal and I flt she was somewhat under used in her role however ultimatel this was a very enjoyable film and well worth checking out.
Summary: Good tense thriller
