Advantages: Laughs and more laughs.

Disadvantages: Lightweight storyline

Being a hopeless Will Ferrell optamist, I went to see Step Brothers with high hopes. Blades of Glory, Semi Pro and Talladega Nights all needed rewrites instead of the half arsed scripts that were used, the joke counts were just to low and looked like an actor getting lazy. Step Brothers is a return to form, of sorts.

Ferrell and Reilly play late thirty-somethings , still dependant on their parents and prone to epic tantrums. When their respective parents get married, they are forced to live together. Battle ensues.

And in this case, hilarity does aswell. The jokes are constant and often belly tickling, with both actors clearly relishing the chance to regress in age. With slapstick and outlandish comments, Ferrell finally gets the gag count he needs.

Step Brothers is a little lightweight in most otherways, the third act is predictable and less funny, but as a throwaway comedy its much better than most out there.

Summary: A funny throwaway film.
