Advantages: Entertaining Scottish oldies
Disadvantages: None
Still Game initially had some problems getting the showing it deserved on the TV, Scottish comedies often seem to do in fact. Still Game is one of the best comedies to come out of Britain in years, it cleverly seems to sum up the day to day encounters of elderly people.
Whether it's a generation gap that is really rather large, their sarcastic wit that has come from years of experience or their friends going doo lally - Still Game is one of the few comedies where you can enjoy it through the eyes of an old person (the closest thing I can think of agewise recently is the retired and aging Victor Meldrew).
On top of that you have all the fun of living in a suburb of Glasgow, the amusing sentences these chaps Jack and Victor. Series 1 cleverly introduces the viewer to the characters that remain a mainstay of the local community, Jack moves in to the flat opposite Victor but not without measuring his way through a funeral first. Whether it's their bickering over bickies, constant jibes at the expense of the landlord of The Clansman, waiting on family, double-dating or the scams of their close friend Winston - this series is bound to keep you extremely entertained.
With 6 series made, you can afford to get into it and there is definitely something warm in the way the series is produced.
Summary: Classic stuff

- 08/04/09 Sorry for the low rate but this tells me very little about the show or the actors. There's also hardly any opinion here either. |
