Advantages: entertaining, scary, good performances

Disadvantages: standard horror fare, nothing new

This film stars Kevin Bacon, as a telephone engineer who led a normal life until he was hynotised by his sister in law. As a result of a post hypnotic sugesstion Kevin comes to experience premonitions of a local woman who went missing before they moved into the area. He is unable to bring order to these events without the help of his son, the customery scary telepathic child (a la The Shining, Sixth sense).
Stir of Echoes features a fair performance from Bacon, promoted from his usual supporting roles to carrying the film almost singlehandedly. The standard fare of a man driven to unexplainable obssesions to the disturbance of his family is reminisant of Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, And the scary, ignored child with a gift and a secret friend is straight from the Shining.
In general, Stir Of Echoes is an entertaining watch, but relies on the usual horror trademarks of visions, haunted houses, wives who lack understanding of what is really happening, children who know more than everyone else, faces in bathroom cabinet mirrors, dark cellars and secret societies.
The ending, when it comes, is disturbing but not as mysterious as you would be led to believe.

Good review, though for it to be 'VU' you'd have to include a bit more detail on things like script and acting quality, music and maybe some comparisons with other movies. What you've written is great though - just not enough of it!
