It is a wonderful thing to be Scottish. But it hasn't always been. Going back centuries, we have been conquered, invaded, and oppressed. As recently as the 1950s, Scotland was referred to by England as North Britain. There was a fledgling movement wanting a parliament for Scotland, to give us our freedom and pride back, but a lot of Scots were made to feel like second class citizens and the Scottish National Party was still developing its ideology. Then along came a group of Glasgow University students who decided it was time to stop talking and start doing. So they did the obvious thing, and reclaimed the Stone of Scone from Westminster Abbey and brought it home to ... Read the complete review

I had read a few reviews about Stone of Destiny and was quite intrigued by the storyline particularly as it is based on a true story. I also knew that it had one of my favourite actors - Robert Carlyle - in it so decided that it would definitely be worth watching. The film is set in 1950 at a time when a lot of Scottish people resented being part of Britain (not much has changed there then!) Four young university students decide that in order to express their anger at the situation, they will steal a truly symbolic emblem of Scotland that has been kept in England for 600 years and take it back where it belongs! That symbol is the Stone of Scone which at the ... Read the complete review

The Stone Of Destiny is the film account of the story of the rescue of the Stone Of Destiny. The stone, also known as the Stone of Scone, is symbolic as it was used to crown Scottish monarchs. It was stolen from Scone by Edward the first in 1296 and has been used in the coronation of British monarchs ever since. Many saw its location as symbolic of Scottish oppression and appealed for the stone to be brought home again but powers that be insisted that it stay put. In 1950 Ian Hamilton (Charlie Cox), a law student at Glasgow University and Scottish Nationalist decided to go to London to claim the stone back. Obviously this presented a few problems, firstly the ... Read the complete review

This film tells the story of Ian Hamilton a law student and three colleagues of his who set out to return the Stone of Scone to its rightful place in his eyes. This British film is an enjoyable romp of a film and is one of those small budget films that punches above its weight and as such is pleasure to watch. The film is based upon a true story and is set in the 1950's, the four young people were all fervent Scottish nationalists who set out to capture the Stone of Scone from the English and return it to Scotland. The stone itself is locatedin Westminster Abbey however desopite the huge odds against them the four set out for London with a mere £50 borrowed ... Read the complete review

Stone of Destiny is a 2009 film that had somehow skipped past my radar, it only came to my attention about a week or so ago when I noticed it was part of Billy Boyd's CV (from Empty with Gregor Fisher), he's joined by the likes of Kate Mara and the flexible Robert Carlyle in what is a relatively straight-forward storyline but far from a meagre affair. Based on true events, this film set in the 50s revolves around the events of a group of Scottish nationalist students who set out to steal the Stone of Scone from Westminster Abbey and return it to Scotland. Obviously the storyline itself is quite exciting and I suppose it could be questioned as to ... Read the complete review
