Stop Press! Will Ferrell is funny. (Stranger Than Fiction (DVD))
Member Name: abyznw
Advantages: Funny, sharp and totally adorable. Disadvantages: It ends. The best indie film since The Royal Tenenbaums. This story centers around the hopeless Harold Crick (Will Ferrell), a lonely tax man with a penchant for counting while he brushes his teeth. Harold starts to hear a voice narrating his life story, unfortunately for Harold, it narrates his impending DEATH. Keen to stop the voice before he meets his untimely end, Harold employs the services of Dustin Hoffman, and together they locate the author of his life story, with interesting consequences. Along the way Harold manages to learn the meaning of life and falls in love with the cynical Maggie Gyllenhaal, and the twist in the ending ensures this is one for the thinking audience. This tale is charming in every possible meaning of the word. The characters are well-developed and played by some of Hollywood's greats. The great thing about this film is that it ticks the boxes when it comes to humour and romance, without selling out, it never patronizes the audience and satisfies the need for a witty, intelligent romantic comedy. Well done sir. Summary: Whimsical rom-com like no other. |
