Alfred Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train - excellent movie! I could leave it that but of course I won't. I'd had this 2 disk special edition in my DVD collection for a while before I got around to watching it. I really should have watched it as soon as I bought it. Not that I need an excuse to watch it all over again. There is no law that says you have to wait any given period of time before you can watch a film that you enjoyed all over again! WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT? Guy Haynes is travelling on a train and get into conversation with a stranger Bruno Anthony. Guy is a semi-professional tennis player and is somewhat flattered that Bruno recognises ... Read the complete review

There can be very few dissenting voices to a statement declaring Hitchcock to be of the greatest directors that has ever lived. His ability to create suspense and tension is unparalleled in the world of cinema. Even now 50 years on from his most famous stuff and 70 years on from, in my opinion, most of his best stuff they are still scary, edge of your seat thrillers. Like most of his best thrillers Strangers On A Train spins its tale of murder and violence out of a very simple premise (one that was borrowed in the 80's for the comedy spoof 'Throw Momma From A Train' starring Danny De Vito). Two men meet on a train and have a pleasant discussion about their ... Read the complete review

Therefore during the conversion on the train, Bruno has an idea that Guy should kill Bruno’s ... Read the complete review

Strangers on a train is one of my favourite Hitchcock movies. Made in 1951 it was the start of a very strong decade for Hitchcock, which would also include Rear Window (54), Vertigo (58), North by Northwest (59) and Psycho (60). The Movie: Guy Haines is a talented, marginally famous, professional tennis player. While travelling to meet his greedy, philandering wife from whom he is trying to arrange a divorce, he meets the flamboyant, thrill seeking Bruno Antony. The two pass the journey time together and while chatting Bruno mentions a murder plot he has invented where two complete strangers would swap or "criss-cross" the murders of the ... I’m not going to pretend I’m some big fan of Alfred Hitchcock – sure I’ve heard of his films, but I’ve only ever seen North by Northwest (which is also excellent), and the remake of Psycho (which isn’t so good). So I’ll just review this film on its own merits. I only heard of this a few months ago but it sounded really intriguing, so I decided to give it a watch during my half term holiday. And I was really impressed… It was made in 1951, adapted from the novel by Patricia Highsmith, and it was nominated for an Oscar in 1952 for Best Black and White Photography. The Internet Movie Database puts it at number 92 in its top 250 films. The story is ... Read the complete review
