Advantages: Fun, clean action for the whole family, several clever themes throughout the movie, teaches a very good moral
Disadvantages: Lack of role from George which should have been second biggest role in movie
I don't exactly remember too much from the first movie, but enough to be come into this movie and be knowledgable. What I experienced was the complete package in a kid's film, you've got a moral taught just like in the first, action to excite even adults, and humor fun enough to crack up the most dense people. I came into Stuart Little 2 right after seeing the other big children's film on, Disney's The Country Bears. While 'Bears' pleasantly surprised me and almost gave me that classic Disney feel, there is no comparison. If you're going to take your kids to see one movie this summer, go see Stuart Little 2. Lilo & Stitch, Scooby Doo, and the Country Bears pale in comparison to this movie. Returning to this movie are the major characters, the entire Little family including Snowball, new to the movie is the an evil falcon coincidently named Falcon, and a sexy looking little bird named Margot. The movie starts out with a look inside the Little house, George, a young boy around the age of oh say 9, and the mouse Stuart. For the clueless who haven't seen the first Stuart Little, Stuart is a mouse that talks and has been accepted in the Little family. He gets treated exactly the same as every other family member and he even goes to school with George. George and Stuart are particpating in a soccer game, but Mrs. Little is concerned of Stuart's safety out on the soccer field. Stuart gets into the game, and everytime a step came near Stuart, I secretly grimaced and held on to the seat tight. I don't see the need of this little part of the movie, but it's entertaining nonetheless. George and Stuart build a model airplane that Stuart can fit in and fly, and we see a scene in which Stuart flies around inside the house, then eventually crashes in the park. George is upset because Stuart has broken his new model airplane, and I began to feel a slight hate for George's attitude. He's
got one of his family members in danger, and all he cares about is his airplane? Anyway, Stuart tells Mr. Little he is upset, George isn't playing with him anymore and he doesn't have any friends of his own. Mr. Little teaches him about the 'Silver Lining', a recurring theme in the movie. The Silver Lining means looking at the bright side even in the darkest of times, a good moral everybody should learn. It's even stronger than the appealing family element in the movie. Eventually, Stuart does find his 'Silver Lining', which is the bird Margot that drops in his car one day. Margot is supposedly hurt by a falcon chasing her, and barely managed to escape. The approach they took with Margot was VERY interesting. Margot gets brought into the Little house, where Stuart feeds her, keeps her entertained, and takes care of her. Many scenes we saw strong emotions from both of them, were they hinting at perhaps a cross-species relationship? It came to an end very quick however. A very interesting part of this relationship is when Stuart and Margot are watching Hitchcock's "Vertigo", a story about a woman deceiving a man. Inserted geniusly into the story's plot. We find out that Margot is deceiving Stuart, in what way I will not spoil. Margot has to fly away, but then is taken away by Falcon. Stuart gets very upset that Margot has dissapeared all of a sudden, and plots to go find her. Snowbell gets a big role in the movie at this point, tagging along with Stuart to help him. Most of the laughs in this movie come from Snowbell's comments. They learn the location of Falcon, and Stuart goes on a brave attempt of rescuing Margot. Obviously he can do nothing by himself against the big bird and gets tossed onto a water bus filled with trash. Stuart is slowing drifting away from New York, while Snowball takes his attempt, which also fails. The Little's suddenly realize Stuart's disapearance, and s
tart a search for him. The scene where Stuart is floating away is very depressing, it touched me on a emotional point. However, in the heap of rubble he finds the broken model airplane, his transportation back to Margot! He repairs it, and heads back. From here on, we see huge chases, aerial battles, and Stuart's amazing courage. Finally, a reunion with the family, and the satisfying ending. This was a satisfying, feel-good movie. I gave it 3 stars, but it could very easily have been 4. Kids will enjoy it, adults will find it a very pleasant surprise. Unlike most other kid films, the moral it teaches is worth learning and is apparent throughtout the entire movie. Take the whole family for this one.
