Survirorman is a series akin to Ray Mears or Bear Grylls. The eponymous Les Stroud goes out to places where he can show us his survival skills. He's usually dropped off by helicopter and left for a week to survive the wild. Each episode begins with a scenario that a person would find themselves in, like driving through the desert in a jeep which breaks down in the middle of nowhere. With this kind of set up, Les goes into his survival challenges with a few typical items. He may have a pocket knife, small snack or seemingly useless object. Survivorman is a series which could be considered the Canadian Ray Mears, though in my view, while I love what Ray Mears does, this is a totally different idea. The man behind it is survival expert Les Stroud, and not only does he present the series, he is also the camera operator, and he talks into the camera and shows what he is doing as he does it. The premise is that he is dropped at a location, completely alone, for seven days, and he must survive whatever environment he happens to be in, and make his way to the pick up point.
