I am a Burton fan anyway so when I heard he was doing Sweeney Todd, I was excited. The story is perfect for him. I watched trying to be impartial.. after all good an actor as he is I had reservations about Johnny Depp singing, and Helena Bonham Carter.. did she just get the role as she's the director's partner? After 10 minutes you forget all that. Johnny Depp has an incredible voice and so does Helena Bonham Carter. She is fantastic as Mrs. Lovett. Clearly she got the role on talent alone. A surprising apperance from Sasha Baron Cohen as Pirelli, a rival barber is also an outstanding performance. The songs are great, and well sung by everyone. The whole film is typically Burton, the sets are dark and full of detail, (and there some great bonus features on this) there's dark humourous side to it and it really is faultless. Best musical in a long time, best film overall in a long time and, in my opinion, the best ever Burton offering.
