Advantages: Heartwarming at parts, some good scenes, a good idea in theory
Disadvantages: Really depressing, slow moving, characters werent believeable, script wasnt great
I remember going to see this film in the cinema years ago as i had seen a trailer for it one day on the tv and thought that it looked quite good. I am a real girly girl and love chick flicks so thought that i would give this film a go.
If you have never seen Sweet November, it is an American romantic drama that hit our screens in 2001. It is directed by Pat O'Connor and is 119 minutes long altogether.
It has a brilliant cast including Keanu Reeves, Charlize Theron and Greg Germann.
The story centres around character Nelson who is a complete workaholic and is married to his career. He meets Sarah, a free spirit who lives life different to everyone else.
She asks him to spend one month with her which happens to be "November" and she will change his life forever.
As Nelson barely knows Sarah at this stage, he thinks that something really strange is going on and firstly refuses. She continues to ask him until he agrees to go along with her.
They start to spend the month together but Nelson soon starts to realise that things arent quite what they seem. Who really is Sarah and what does she want with Nelson? Does she have an agenda in mind?
I wont give away too much of the plot incase i ruin it for you but i have to say that i thought this film was a little strange.
It was billed as being a really sweet romantic feel good film but i found the whole thing really depressing to be honest.
The acting by both Reeves and Theron was good but there wasnt enough chemistry between them to make me care much about the characters.
The script i thought could have been improved on and i thought Therons character was a little too eccentric and kooky for my liking.
Although the film was romantic and a love story, i was left feeling almost like i had a bad taste in my mouth after watching this.
It was a bittersweet tragic love story that seemed to be very slow paced the whole way through the film and i got the impression some of the actors with lesser parts in the film didnt really care about the acting and were just there for the paycheck.
Summary: Not one i will be watching again
