Premium Review Dance Therapy With Banderas (703 words)
by - written on 25/09/09 (Very useful, 43 readings)
Rating:

I watched this when it was on television recently, and must admit that although I am usually a horror/thriller fan, there's something about dance films that I enjoy. This isn't something I would have seen at the cinema or bought on DVD, but it was worth watching on tv. Take The Lead was released in 2006 and was directed by Liz Friedlander, a woman who has previously worked on mostly music videos and so knows her stuff. Her knowledge and experience shows in this film, giving Take The Lead a polished and well executed finish. The storyline is actually based on a true story, though it's not something that struck me as being overly new or original. Set ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Take The Lead (DVD): Dancing from the ghetto (586 words)

Rating:

I was pushed into watching this film by my wife when it was on the box the other night and was glad she did as this was a fantastic film which had a real good feel factor to it. The film is based in a tough school in New York when Pierre Dulaine takes on his biggest test yet as a dance instructor. He sets out to change the ways of troubled teens, set them on the straight and narrow and give them a goal in life. He sets about this adventure when he comes across a highly influenced teen named Rock who is caught smashing up the principle's car. Away goes Pierre, played by Antonio Banderas, who embarks on his one man mission to get these troubled kids to put their ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Take The Lead (DVD): Never follow (738 words)
by - written on 17/09/09 (Very useful, 78 readings)
Rating:

Based on a true story, ballroom dancer, Pierre Dulaine, offers to spend his time teaching troubled teenagers from a public school in New York to dance, after witnessing one of them vandalising a car. But his efforts are only met with laughter and ridicule, as the students show prejudice to Dulaine's background and status, which is so different to theirs. But Dulaine's constant struggle and commitment to the group of kids eventually wins over, and they begin to enjoy their lessons. The new style of dance, which they manage to mix with their own style of hip-hop, is just one of the things they will learn, as well as pride, respect, self-esteem and honour. ~ ...  Read the complete review
