Advantages: Neeson is very good, exciting throughout

Disadvantages: Ending could have been better

Taken is a thriller starring Liam Neeson and directed by Pierre Morel, last year. I only got round to watching it last night even though I thought the trailer looked great when I first saw it. The trailer is actually quite misleading though; when Liam Neeson says "Now they are going to take you" I thought he was part of the kidnapping for some reason or another because why on earth would you say that to your daughter when she is probably the most scarred she's ever been?

But anyway... on to the movie itself. Neeson is a great lead and plays the role of a loving father and ex-Government agent very well, even if his voice did sometimes sound like a mix between Jigsaw from SAW and Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid! His lines down the phone when he first talks to the kidnappers was amazing.

The plot is basically that his daughter gets kidnapped in Paris with a friend and he tries to get her back alive using his old skills, such as lethal close quater combat and precision pistol aim. All the combat and chase scenes are fantastically brutal and actually remind me of the Bourne movies; quick blows to the neck, broken bones, clever usage of his surroundings etc.

The ending was a little disappointing however. It is pretty much a predictable movie so I was hoping for a twist or something to leave me thinking but it really didn't succeed in that department. Nonetheless, Taken really is a must watch movie in my opinion and a perfect rental. I'm not too sure I would buy it though, purely because of the storyline.

Summary: Watch it. You won't regret it.
