Advantages: Entertaining with lots of different emotions
Disadvantages: None
Talk To Me is an excellent film that I watched recently, I was rooting around on IMDB and hadn't even heard of it but it had a fair rating and starred Don Cheadle, an actor whose performance I thoroughly enjoyed in Hotel Rwanda.
Talk to Me is based on the story of Ralph "Petey" Greene, an ex-con who gets himself out of prison where he has developed a fan club as a hillarious DJ. This is not just a story of someone propelling themselves from nowhere to fame but also a very informative film of the African-American community in Washington DC's, during the 60's and 70's. Don Cheadle puts in a hillarious performance, Petey Greene oozes charisma and is as quick-witted as they come but his battle with alcoholism also displays a rather sad side to his life.
Dewey Hughes (Chiwetel Ejiofor) innitially rejects his possibilities but soon gives in, he's everything Petey Greene is not - well educated, smartly dressed and has designed his style based on Jimmy Carson. People even mistake him for a white person on the radio, ultimately though he lacks the panache of Petey Greene and together they form a roller-coaster of a partnership. Elle Downs as Peaches is probably the 3rd character to have such an important part in the film, she's attractive but also embarassing at times but ultimately has a good heart. Lots of little characters in the studio are played to perfection in this film.
This is an exciting and different film with lots of record studio suspense and it brings out a lot of emotions in the viewer. Highly recommended!
Summary: A very understated film

- 09/02/09 I cannot stand Don Cheadle - I can't believe they replaced that guy in Iron Man with him for the sequel. |
