What a film for the 50th Disney Animated Feature!

Advantages: Great animation, Great story, Great fun
I have grown up with Disney and still have a soft spot for their films, so when their 50th animated feature came out in 2011 I was very excited. I have to say I wasn'y expecting much from this take on the Rapunzel story, but oh how wrong I was!
The film creates it's own version of the story and introduces plenty of characters that I don't remember being in the original story. Rapunzel isn't a useless damsel in distress, rather a bit of an innocent, scheming, jail break....even resorting to blackmail to acheive her goal of seeing the 'lights in the sky' that appear on her birthday. The other characters are equally entertaining, with a good, nasty villain in the form of the wicked witch. I would almost say she was as horrible as the witch from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. The male interest is very self-centred and full of bravado, but it is clear from the start that Rapunzel will melt that harsh exterior.
I found the story enchanting, there was plenty of comedy that was suitable for both adults and children. There was singing and dancing, like every good Disney film. There were highs and lows and even moments when I had that bit of dust in my eye. Also the animation was brilliantly done, a great job on the hair and on the lights in the sky, they really have hit the nail on the head here.
All in all a fantastic Disney film, that isn't just for little girls that like princesses, but girls who stil hold onto girl-power and some boys as well!
Summary: A fantastic offering for Disney's 50th Animated Feature, adventure, comedy and romance!
