... LAPD for bringing down some of the city's biggest criminals, yet they still compete with one another regularly to see who gets the biggest news headline of the week. After exchanging various insults and wisecracks, the pair are soon set up for murder by criminal mastermind Yves Perret (Jack Palance) and sent to prison. Here, they are tortured by the criminal inmates that they put behind bars years earlier, and, worse, they have to put up with one another's company in the shower. Actually I'll rephrase that: These ...more

Premium Review Tango & Cash (DVD): Tango & Cash Film Review (651 words)

"Who the Hell do you think you are?" screams an LA County Deputy at Sylvester Stallone in the opening scene of Andrei Konchalovsky's buddy-cop action-comedy. "He thinks he's Rambo!" another Deputy intervenes. "Rambo," however, "is a pussy," and Sly doesn't want to be a pussy. In case you were somehow unaware that Stallone played the one man wrecking machine, John Rambo, at his prime in the 1980s, you would have missed the joke here. For everyone else, the sight of Stallone wearing glasses and an Armani suit, acting a dick by poking fun at his main source of income (besides Rocky) is quite hilarious. Well, I thought so ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Another Buddy-Buddy Cop flick (703 words)

Rating:

If I told you that this was another buddy buddy cop movie then you would be forgiven for rolling your eyes towards heaven and shuffling it down your list of movies to see. If I told you that in involved a pair of cops being framed and that drugs are involved and the pair must try to clear their name and all that junk then again you would be forgiven for deciding to never let this movie grace your video player. You would be forgiven but you would also be missing out on a movie which is actually not that bad, and certainly good enough to warrant a hour or two of your time. That said, Lethal Weapon it ain't and its certainly no Rush Hour either. What it is, is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tango & Cash (DVD): Ultimate buddy movie (465 words)
by - written on 14/04/02 (Very useful, 64 readings)
Rating:

If you are looking for a cheesy, all American buddy movie, then look no further, Tango and Cash are here. Ray Tango is played by Sylvester Stallone and Gabriel Cash is played by Kurt Russell, and it is clear from the off that the two actors work very well together. The are both high profile rival drugs officers, and enjoy the limelight and front page headlines for different reasons. Stallone is not the stereotypical brute force of the pairing, that is left to Russell. Instead we see Stallone play a mild mannered suited and booted policeman, who pays as much attention to the stockmarket as he does chasing bad guys, while Russell refuses to take life so seriously, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review not bad for a sunday afternoon (230 words)

This is a film that was funny when it first came out and after seeing it for the first time in about eight years, I have to say that it is even funnier now. Russel and Stallone doing comedy together is quite interesting in itself. But remember, these are two proud action stars. At least they were at this stage of their careers. Clearly Stallone was looking to curve his reputation just a little bit. Here, he comes across as a smart and dapper L.A. detective that just happens to tough as nails. Russell plays the role that Stallone would have played maybe even three years ago. But the change in character works for Stallone. This also gives Russell a chance to look ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Tango & Cash (DVD): you've been tango'd (270 words)
by - written on 04/04/02 (Useful, 35 readings)
Rating:

If you havn't seen Tango & Cash then you're either below the age of 8 or very stupid indeed! Everyone knows what this film is all about, from the mold of lethal weapon and more recently rush hour and cop films like that, hard core action and quality comedy mixed, but if you havn't seen it then I will briefly explain the story without spoiling this epic for you. Its all about the biggest two cops in America, one a well educated (yes this was the man that done rocky!) and well groomed police officer and the other, a scruffy, from the wrong side of the tracks kinda guy. The two of them in the papers for huge drug busts and generally keeping ...  Read the complete review
