Team America: World Police (DVD)

Description: Genre: Action & Adventure / Theatrical Release: 2004 / Director: Trey Parker / Actors: Trey Parker, Matt Stone ... / ... more
Team America: World Police (DVD) ... DVD released 23 May, 2005 at Paramount Home Entertainment / Features of the DVD: Anamorphic, PAL / An elite U.S. counter-terrorism squad loses a member while decimating half of Paris in the reckless pursuit of Middle Eastern maniacs; a Broadway actor with a traumatic childhood secret is naturally hired to replace him. Oh--and they're all marionettes. South Park maestros Trey Parker and Matt Stone (along with co-writer Pam Brady) came up with this shameless satire of pea-brained Hollywood action flicks and even smaller-minded global politics, so don't expect subtlety or even a hint of good taste. Team America is soon on the trail of North Korea's evil Kim Jong Il, who treats us to a tender song about his loneliness before ensnaring Alec Baldwin and the rest of the oblivious Film Actors Guild (F.A.G. for short) in a plot to blow up every major city on the planet. Just as the mindless squad cheerfully demolishes everything in sight, so do director Parker and company. Throwing punches left, right and in-between, the movie's politics leave no turn un-stoned; there's even time to bludgeon the musical Rent. It's offensive, irresponsible comic anarchy seemingly made by sniggering little boys. Painfully funny sniggering little boys. --Steve Wiecking, Amazon.com

Premium Review Team America: World Police (DVD): Thunderbirds just grew up - disgracefully (610 words)

The first time I ever saw 'Team America: World Police' was a few years ago now with my family. My wife and daughter looked on with bemused smiles as me and my two sons rolled around the room in uncontrolled laughter. Time has since passed and, having watched it again, I still found myself in tears of joy. Not sure if this is just a sad reflection of my sense of humour or if the film truly is 'the funniest thing ever committed to film'. The film opens in sunny Paris as artists paint, mimes...er...mime and un femme takes petite enfant for a morning stroll. Unfortunately this idyllic scene is soon shattered as terrorists take out their trusty machine guns and ...  Read the complete review

From the makers of south park comes the puppet film of the century. More amazing than thunderbirds, and more laughs than The Shaun Kyle show! .. Ok time to get serious. Ive watched this film countless times since buying it from Blockbuster for £5.99 and it still has me crying with laughter lol. The film is classed as certificate 15 and tells the story of Team America, who are a police force dedicated to maintaning world stability untill they learn that an evil dictator is giving weapons of mass destruction to terrorists. To get into the terrorists network, The team get the help of Gary johnston, A star from broadway. He is reluctant to risk his career, but ...  Read the complete review

Crowned Review Welcome to the good ol' U. S. of A. (969 words)

Read the DVD box, packed with quotes from various journalists, and you'd be convinced that Team America is the funniest film ever. Having just got round to watching it, I have to say, the reality is a little different. Team America is from the nutjob, foul-mouthed childish team who brought you South Park. Straight away, that should give you some idea of what to expect. Lots of references to sex, body parts and bodily functions, and swearing. The rubbish 2D drawings of South Park have been replaced by rubbish puppets, but Parker and Stone's essentially offensive nature still shines through. Actually, the puppets work surprisingly well. Once you've ...  Read the complete review

Team America: World Police is a satirical action movie, but with one big difference: it has puppets! It's made by the creators of South Park; Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and that should tell you all you need to know about this film, since it's every bit as crude, rude and offensive as that cult TV show. If you're expecting another cinematic version of Thunderbirds, you're in for a surprise! The pair's foray into puppetry is to tell the story of Team America: a group of US action heroes, who travel the world trying to eliminate terrorism in their own unique style. The film starts in Paris, where they uncover some Middle Eastern terrorists, and bring them down. ...  Read the complete review
