This film is an interweaving of stories from two different generations of the Yolngu people, an indiginous Australian tribe. In the first, we see Dayindi, a young man who has fallen in love with the wife of his elder brother, being told a story by that brother to teach him how to live properly. In the second, we see the story that he is told, a tale of desire, betrayal, kidnap, murder, sorcery and retribution amongst his ancestors, which grows organically like a tree, branching out into a more and more complex structure from its roots.
