Advantages: New saga is about to begin

Disadvantages: Arnold O Arnold, were arth thy Arnold

Having just watched Terminator Salvation, I was left with a mixed reaction. I was long waiting for another Terminator film too be released as I've always been a life
Long fan of this brilliant franchise. This review will give my insight into the film, give a brief description about the plots and the characters, what I felt about
the characters and finally my overall perception of the film.

Brief Background:

For all of those who may not no, Terminator Salvation is the fourth instalment in the Terminator saga, and the first film which does not include Arnold schwarzenegger,
this to was one of the biggest shocks, however since the directors wanted to start a new trilogy, to make a new saga of films, I suppose it can make some sense to them.
The first two Terminator films were ground break and broke many box office records, it started a revolution of sci fi films, which included machines and end of the world#
type scenario's. The third instalment, although a box office financial success, did not live up to the previous two instalments, it lacked the witty, toughened plots the
Previous two films had.

Plot:

The film starts off with a scene from the year 2003, Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington) a death row inmate who is about to be sentenced to death is given the option of sign away his
Body to medical research one he is dead. Dr. Serena Kogan (Helena Bonham Carter), indicates that he could potentially help save millions lives, and finally do something good, before he dies, he accepts.
The following year in accordance with Terminator 3, skynet is activated and the war against machines finally starts.
Fast forward to the year 2018, John Connor, played by Christian Bale, leads a resistance of fighters against the machines. John discovers that Skynet has a plant to use humans as a prototype, which will help them
In the war against the humans, with this news Connor, decided to tell his superiors what the machines have planed, in the hope of stopping it.

Elsewhere, from a recently attacked base, Marcus Wright emerges, its been fifteen years since he was executed and the World as he knows it has totally changed. Marcus is rescued by a young Kyle Reese (Anton Yelchin).
Kyle explains to Marcus whats been going on for the last fifteen years, and how the humans are fighting a ever lasting war. Long story cut short, Kyle along with several other humans have been captured by terminators
and are taken back to Skynets main headquarters, they plan to use them for their new experiment.
Marcus runs into a resistance fighter named Blair Williams, she offers to take him to Connors base, however, Blair eventually finds out that Marcus is infact a machine. She takes Marcus back the base, were he is interrogated by
John Connor. Connor believes Marcus is simply another machine sent here to kill him, however Marcus believes he's still a human. With Connor ready to kill Marcus, Marcus lets Connor no that Skynet has taken Kyle Reese, and is offering
to help save him. Can the humans and machines work together, or will all hell break loose.....?

Characters:

Christian Bale as John Connor: Christian Bale plays the resistance fighter John Connor. I was actually a big fan of Bale playing John, he's got that type of attitude and charisma that allows him to play that character very well.
Having watched Bale in both Batman, as well as American Psycho, he definitely got the credentials. I liked John's character is this film, unlike the first three films, he's more of a action hero in this film, were as the first three he's more of
a child type figure, someone who doesn't like his destiny. Like I said, Connor's character has gone a long distance since the second film, he's become more mature, more open to the situation he is in, and what he needs to do to save the world.

Sam Worthington as Marcus Wright: The inclusion of Marcus was a brilliant character, simply put he's a half machine half human. His integration shows us how the characters around him feel, they can trust him, will he help them, what are his motives etc.
Sams a great actor, and I'm looking forward to his film Avator which comes out later this year. His character shows a lot of emotion in this film even though he's a machine, much like Arnold role in Terminator two.

Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese: They finally included Kyle Reese once again, and I suppose it makes sense to include him, as he played a big role in the first film. What was brilliant abour this film was the connection he and John's character would have,
John cant tell Kyle who he is, but has to save him when he gets .Yelchin is a great upcoming actor, he has a lot of heart and grit, which he shows in this film.

Bryce Dallas Howard as Kate Connor: John's wife is also included in this film, and it makes sense as a result of the third terminator instalment. She doesn't really have a big presence in this film, and for me I think she was included just to make the third film
Make sense, however the possibility of her playing a great deal of importance in future films cant be ruled out.

My View:

This is a film you have to watch, love it or hate it you must take some time to watch the film, get a lot at the reboot and to see what direction the film has taken. Like most fans a Terminator film will never be the same without Arnold. He personified the Terminator
franchise, without him I felt the film would fail, but I was wrong. This film finally hits the nail in the coffin, were as the first three films focused on the present, the fourth instalment finally focuses on the Judgement day war. The war fans have been told about in
the first three films. We got to see a lot more machines, some old one's and some interesting new ones, don't want to spoil too much. The T-800 model is included in this film, and fans will be a happy with the CGI Arnie they use in this film.
The film focuses on a lot of mythology, the reasons behind the war and what lies in the future. It has scripted a new trilogy, just how the first three films were a trilogy, I felt the directors were trying to create a new set of films, they wanted to stay true to the fans, whilst
At the same time try and distance themselves from the past, and focus on the future.

The film has a lot of action and suspense, which makes the film very watchable, they used a great deal of CGI to make the film more eye catching.
For me the most disappointing part of the film was the villain and good character role. Watching the first three films, the plot always has a good terminator and a bad terminator, fighting against each other. Now we no this films set in the future and it focuses more on the war,
however this would have made the film slightly more appealing to me.

Overall this was a good film, it has a good plot, a great set of cast, and a good background. This is a film I would encourage everyone to watch.
