Advantages: Good action scenes and plot is ok
Disadvantages: No arnie
Given that Terminator 3 was pretty dire I did not expect too much from this film however it was a lot better than I expected it to be, still not as good as the first or second one but a much more fitting addition to the series non the less.
The big question was whether a Terminator film could work without the prescence of Arnie and to be honest the film does not really suffer from his abscence, the films loss is the people of California loss as he continues to run the state into the ground.
The film opens with a convicted criminal agreeing to allow medical tests to be carried out on him after his execution and this takes place shortly before the rise of the machines against the humans. Moving forward Christian Bale is now in the role of John Connor who leads the fight against the all conquering machines and as a result of the research carried out he discovers that the machines plan to use human protertypes in their war effort.
The plot for this film is a little complicated in places and like all Terminator films sometimes you just have to accept what is in front of you and not think too hard about the numerous holes in the plot.
In terms of perfomances Bale is good in the role of Connor and while Sam Worthington as Marcus the convict whose body is experimented on also puts in a competent performance.
The special effects in this film are quite impressive and as a film that effectively draws a line under the old style Terminator films and opens up the possibility of a new series it works pretty well, certainly it managed to hold my interest and I was surprised that I enjoyed it quite as much as I did.
Summary: Good action film
