Advantages: Great sequences of action, well made

Disadvantages: Not as gripping as could have been

Terminator Salvation has renewed my interest in the Terminator films and lifted the series up a notch or two again. There seems to have been a lot more interest shown in making a good film with some iconic value this time around and not just going through the motions. The third film didn't seem to have those iconic people or moments that a viewer remembers.

The post nuclear war future realised in this film doesn't seem quite the same as the glimpses shown by James Cameron in Terminator's 1 and 2, seeming to resemble more the direction "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" TV show is heading. However, on viewing I found the film very enjoyable and I think it displayed a good deal of ambition as is expected with Terminator films. The actors and characters were somewhat overshadowed by the action sequences. The plot wasn't very obvious to me and at times was a bit too convenient, the characters didn't seem to have to deal with very much. The rendering of this particular future and action set ups were impressive and enjoyable.

An aspect I think that wasn't very apparent in this or the last film were the horror and suspense elements, two emotional responses that can grip people and convey danger. I didn't see a proper menacing Terminator as a character until the original Arnie model returns near the end of the film.

I did enjoy the film and do recommend it, this film is a solid installment.
