Advantages: A darker stance with great acting from Bale and Worthington.

Disadvantages: Slightly too many special effects.

The fourth installment to the acclaimed terminator series, Set after judgement day this is a post apocalytic earth, machines are in control and humans are the resistance. After the disappointment of Terminator 3 I was unsure what to expect from this installment, hopeful was my first impressions with the introduction of the gritty dark acting of Christian Bale as an adult John Connor, the prophecised leader of the resistance.

The special effects in this film are cleverly done, not taking too much from the story something which is becoming an increasing theme in a lot of recent films.

-Plot-
Skynet preparing a plan to terminate mankind once and for all, John connor must rally his troops for the final battle. In order to save mankinds future he must first save his own father Kyle Reese (played by Anton Yelchin) A man he is only aware of after listening to tapes left by his mum. The twist comes from Marcus Wright (played by Sam Worthington) A half man, half machine, made by skynet. This sets up a brutal conclusion set in the heart of the enemy.

This is a welcome introduction to the series, with a darker tone than the previous installments the near demise of the human race is palpable to all. Hiding in hidden bases and undetaking secret counterattacks. The resistance is outnumbered and out gunned. Human choice and sacrifice is a huge part of this film and gives a sense of reality to this sci fi classic.

I ended the film quite impressed by the film, the few short comings taking away only slightly to the overall quality. A clear setup ending to a new sequel was an annoyance but seems to be the way these long running film series are done nowadays.

Summary: A good fourth installment to the series, well acted and great storyline.
