Tetsujin 28 (DVD) ... creator of Giant Robo comes this remake of a classic post-war manga. Professor Kaneda, who thinks that he has lost his son during the heavy bombing of Tokyo during WWII, builds a robot, Tetsujin, to replace him. The robot is an ultimate fighting machine, and to keep it out of the wrong hands, Kaneda hides the robot on an island. Years later, the professor's protege, Shikishima, makes 28 attempts to reanimate the robot before he is finally successful. Tetsujin goes on to join forces with Kaneda's son Shotaru, a young detective, to fight the good fight against the forces of evil. This first volume contains episodes 1-5.

Tetsujin 28 is 50 years old this year, he is Japan’s oldest giant robot and is pretty much the most famous robot in the country. He has gone from Manga to TV to Anime to film during this time. This 50th birthday film reinvents and celebrates his history and combines both live action and Toy Story like animation to create a look not seen for quite a while (Cool World & Monkey Bones being the last that I recall) Tokyo, modern day, everything is quiet and everyone is happy.
