Advantages: Great comedy, will keep you laughing for hours
Disadvantages: The ending could have been slightly better
This movie is a fantastic comedy, it mixes slapstick, great innuendos, one liners, hilarious off the cuff banter and of course some fantastic taboo comic moments.
Steve Carell plays Andy Stitzer a geeky, humdrum 40 year old who has never had sex. He is a good guy, but he has always been awkward around women and after years of not being successful he decided to avoid them entirely. Andy works in an electronics store and after a social event playing poker after hours with his male colleagues - David (Paul Rudd), Jay (Romany Malco) and Cal (Seth Rogan), they discover that he is a virgin and make it their mission to de-flower him!
In the groups attempts to get Andy to 'do it' he has several mishaps in taking their different advice; one advices he take extra care in his grooming, the second says its all about talking to woman, asking them questions and just listening as women don't really care what men have to say; and the third argues the romantic side and divulges regularly in his own unrequited love stories. The techniques work for the different men, but don't all suit Andy. However he does manage to start a relationship with Trish (Catherine Keener) but how he resolves telling her, a sexy grandma (also of about 40) that he is a grown man who hasn't had sex is just fantastic to watch.
The characters perform so well together, and even the cameos provide some great laughs. The fun the cast must have had is so apparent it only adds to the enjoyment. This comedy does have its crude and rude moments, but if you aren't easily offended then I would highly recommend it. Even watching it several times, I still can't stop laughing.
Summary: A little rude and crude, but hilarious all the same!
