Advantages: Mildly entertaning
Disadvantages: Falls short trying to be cool
This is an enjoyable little film based in Liverpool which has most of the actrs from Liverpool appearing in it with a fair few familiar faces from Brookside in it.
Samual L Jackson plays an American chemist involved in the drugs trade who has double crossed his American backers and fled to Liverpool with the formula for a new super drug in his possession which he intends to sell to the highest bidder for a cool £20m. Why he actually chooses Liverpool is not clear.
At the airport he is met by Robert Carlyle who works for the local crime boss however on the plane is Carlyle former girlfriend, a hired assassin with a contract out on the head of Jackson and anyone who associates with him.
This is strange film, Jackson parades around in a kilt and there are some funny dark moments in it, especially in the way the pair deal wityh a gang of skin heads, just do't be eating your dinner when you watch it.
There are some good action scenes and it moves along at a fast pace but overall it lacks something, many of the characters are not that convincing as if it is trying too hard to imitate films like Pulp Fiction and Lock Stock and it comes up short in a number of areas.
Not a bad film just not one i would add to my collection. Just quite average overall.
Summary: Average action thriller
