Advantages: Colin Firth and Jeffrey Dean Morgan
Disadvantages: Predictable and boring
The concept:
Emma Lloyd (Uma Thurman) works as a talk radio host, specialising in advising women about love, men and relationships in general. She is engaged to Richard Bratton (Colin Firth), a good, straight-laced, dependable, 'safe' kind of man.
One day, Emma advises a woman on air to effectively ditch her husband-to-be before the wedding. As payback, this jilted groom, Patrick Sullivan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), gets his neighbour's teenage son to hack into the registry system in America and establishes this Emma Lloyd as his wife and thereby prevents Emma and Richard from getting married. Hence, Emma seeks out Patrick and yes, the rest I am sure you can guess...
What can I say? The acting was fine, and the plot was predictable. The characters were pretty stereotypical: Colin's character was the safe bet, but Uma's character would never be truly happy because he wasn't exciting. Patrick character had a hint of danger, which would keep the excitement in the relationship.
It's watchable, but I wouldn't rush out to see it again. I found myself getting frustrated everytime Uma came on screen and I just kept feeling that the movie was meant to have some sort of meaningful message behind it. If it did, it fell flat. The good romantic comedies always have chemistry and likeability. I couldn't feel any chemistry between the characters, and as I said, I couldn't wait for Uma to leave the shot.
Summary: A film that bores rather than inspires.
