note: also appears in part on Flixster and The Student Room The Addams Family is a cracking rendition of the classic American TV series, and brings it back to living, breathing life for a new generation with some great costume and set design, and a slew of spirited performances. The film opens as Gomez (Raúl Juliá, in one of his final good roles) reveals that he hasn't seen his brother, Fester (a near unrecognisable Christopher Lloyd) in about 25 years after they had a dispute. When their lawyer Tully (Dan Hedaya) is in financial woes, he meets Gordon (also played by Lloyd), who bears a striking resemblance to Fester, and declares that he pose as ... The Addams Family was released in 1991 and was such a hit that they immediately commissioned a sequel, Addam's Family Values. Whereas the original black and white TV shows (and the new 90s version) were played for slapstick laughs, this film's humour is as black as night, as dry as a bone and all the better for it. There are lots of references to pain and pleasure between Gomez and Morticia, and lots of attempts at mutilating each other between Wednesday and Pugsley. The premise of the film is simple. Fester, brother of Gomez Addams, has been missing for many years, presumed dead. However, when Gomez's financial advisor, and his greedy wife ... Read the complete review

Much better than the television show starring John Astin, this movie is a top shelf item for me simply because of Raul Julia and Angelica Huston in the starring roles of Gomez and Morticia in this film about a loveable, but unusual family. What a wacky and backwards family, you can't help but love them. A great moment in this film was the portrayal of Uncle Fester by Christopher Lloyd (Taxi)who surpasses the original character. Uncle Fester returns in this movie, leaving Gomez at suspect as to the true identity of this character that has re-entered his life after a long absence. Even Wednesday, (Gomez and Morticia daughter played by Cristina ... Read the complete review

I always saw The Addams Family television show as being a poor relation to the much better Munsters show. However, it is The Addams Family which has made it onto the silver screen whilst The Munsters carries on languishing back in the sixties, to be re-run on channel 4 at 5am during the next school holiday. I have to say that this bias was probably not in the least due to a passing crush on Lily as a (obviously rather strange) child which probably lead to the manifestation of a short-lived goth phase as a teenager as well...but thats another story.... The Addams family movie is a devilishly dark humoured tale based around a nuclear family with a twisted take on ... Read the complete review

I was always a fan of the TV show, (and not because I look like Wednesday Addams either!) but when I heard that they were going to bring out a film version, I didn't know if they were going to make a hash of the series, well... I was wrong! Anjelica Huston was born to play Morticia Addams, mother of the ghoulish Addams clan, while the late Raul Julia is a very agreeable, lusty Gomez. But in my opinion Christina Ricci stole the show when playing Wednesday. The story is quite simple, Gomez (Julia) is searching for his long lost brother Fester (who has been missing from the family for the last twenty-five years after a family feud). When a ...
