This is a great one for the kids but I enjoyed it too! If you liked A Bugs Life you will like this. Lucas is a young boy who is being picked on by the local bully in his neighbourhood, Lucas takes out his pent up frustration on the ants nest in his front lawn causing chaos in the nest. Eventually the ants have had enough of this and one of them discovers how to shrink Lucas to their size so they can get their own back. Lucas has a choice, either train to become an Ant or be eaten by the colony! This is a really well made film with plenty of action, laughs. and some very funny characters. With the voices of Julia Roberts, Nicolas Cage, Meryl Streep and Zach Tyler for ... Read the complete review

For those of you familiar with these films, you may wonder about the originality of this movie given the choice of main characters before even watching. This is because this is the third animated film made in recent years featuring a colony of ants. Following on from “A Bug’s Life” and “Antz”, you may not wish to see another film with Them, our formic acid friends. This insect does seem to have taken the monopoly of such films given its stereotypical nature of all of them working together for the common good of all. There is an unspoken truth in movieland that there is nothing as an idea that you own. If you are a young and upcoming script writer you may decide to visit several of the large movie studios and pitch your ideas. Eventually, you may get a contract and be offered the opportunity to write a full script. You do this only to find that another studio you talked with has stolen your idea and is bringing out a similar film themselves. This happened several years ago when DreamWorks’s ‘Antz’ and Pixar’s ‘A Bug’s Life’ came out within a year of each other with similar story concepts. So how come it took ‘The Ant Bully’ so long to jump on the insect ... Read the complete review

The Ant Bully is based on the 1999 children's book drawn and written by John Nickle, and while it isn't going to give Pixar's output a run for their money any time soon, it's a fun and inventive animated film that's clever and quite witty at times, even if it is rather low key for a children's films and never really seemed to find and audience. It also boasts a rather eclectic case, including big names such as Nicolas Cage, Julia Roberts, and Meryl Streep, as well as lesser-known stars such as Smallville's Allison Mack, indie sensation Paul Giamatti, and Star Trek's Khan himself, Ricardo Montalban. The film's protagonist is a young boy named Lucas Nic (Zach ... Read the complete review
