Advantages: a great western
Disadvantages: slow in parts
This DVD is now out and you can get it for under a tenner. Which it my opinion it is well worth it. Especially as the ever so good looking Brad Pitt is on it.
Unfortunately westerns are not really my cup of tea, but I decided to give it a go after the write ups and I was glad that I did.
This film is based on the book by Robert Hansen from 1983 and it's about train-robber and out law Jesse James who is played by the one and only Brad Pitt he can feel his death approaching, but can he foresee that fringe gang-member Robert Ford played by Casey Affleck will be the man to pull the trigger. The film as a whole gives you an insight of Jesse James in his final days.
It began slowly and I did for a while think I might not be able to stay the course. However, on the whole the drama was well paced and backed up by a solid performances from the cast. If you're looking for an exciting and action packed western this is not for you, although some of the violence is pretty graphic. What the film try's to do is give you an insight of the man during his final days.
This is rated a 15 and is about two and a half hours long, which is a long time for a film but I think that it is really worth it.
Summary: a great film based on a novel from over 20 years ago
