Advantages: Good acting from Casey Affleck

Disadvantages: Some may say length is too long

The assasination of Jesse James is set in America in the mid 19th Century. The film itself is over two and a half hours long, and what is interesting is that there is little action over that two and a half hour period, and only a basic plot line, yet one never tires of watching the film as it really draws you in.

It stars Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck (Ben Affleck's brother) and is based on a true story. What is strange about this film is that, from the outset, one knows what the result will be. The title says it all, "the Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford". We meet both characters within the first 10 minutes, and spend the next 2 and half hours watching the plot unfold. This kind of story telling is used in the final scene of the film, the narrator tells us what happens before it actually happens. Although, this method of story telling does not seem to reduce the tension in any way, in fact, through the whole film, you will find yourself extremely tense and waiting for "it" to happen.

The acting is good from Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck (the latter who portrays a weirdo very well!) and the other cast members are believable. The tense moments are extremely tense.

The film is suitable for 15 years and above. There isn't too much graphic violence in it. One thing I would note is that you have to keep an eye out on each of the characters names, particularly those in the gang.

The scenery is very believable and the music is really good too.

Summary: Overally a good film with a good story telling method.
