Advantages: funny, original, good cast
Disadvantages: passes to quickly
When I first saw this film it was when I had seen it at the cinema but I loved it so much that I just had to buy it. This is a great film with a great cast that will be fun for anyone to watch. Susan Sarandon and Goldie Hawn star in this film and it begins with Goldie Hawn's characters Suzette being fired from her job. She is in her room and then pulls out a picture of her friend from the past Lavinia Kingsley who to her was called Vinnie. She decides there is nothing happening for her where she is so she takes her car which has been fixed and heads off to Phoenix, Arizona. In the middle of her trip Suzette runs out of gas and stops of at a petrol station with no money but still tries to get petrol she asks for help and says she will give them a free ride to Phoenix if they buy her a tank so then a strange man with a travel pillow stuck around his neck says he will. We then find out this man is Harry Plummer a writer but also he needs to go to Phoenix for one reason and this is to shoot his father. He complains a lot at the start but is funny and although they are both opposites they seem to get on well although he seems quite scared of Suzette. This character is played by Geoffrey Rush and if you have seen him lately in Pirates of the Caribbean, it's quite a difference. When they both arrive in Phoenix she lets Harry go to a hotel and stay because she needs to go to Vinnie's house. When she gets there her whole family are waving off the daughter to her prom and she realises that this is the wrong time to appear after 20 years so she goes back to annoy Harry. He lets her stay after a while and she says that he needs to have sex with her because he has told her it was ten years ago he last had it. He seems nervous a lot but is actually a good person and understands the situation she is in. Suzette hears people walking down the corridor of the hotel then realises it's Vinnie's daughter and she has taken drugs so she does a favour
and helps her then takes her home. When she is at the house Vinnie or Lavinia as she calls herself now is shocked to see her and is nasty telling her that the life with her is nothing to do with now where she is living and that noone knows about her then. Now Lavinia is living in a huge house with a rich husband and 2 children she is very uptight, proper and nothing like she was when she was a groupie. The both of them were named the Banger Sisters then but now she doesn't want to hear about it. The story is great and is really funny it's about two people who used to have a past but then changed and thanks to Suzette coming back made Lavinia realise how much she had been tangled up in her family's lives and not caring about herself and losing what she used to be thanks to worrying about others. She then doesn't like the fact she wears only beige and that her whole family couldn't imagine her at a concert. It's really funny when she cuts her hair and changes her look, quite a difference. This film has a different plot and that's why I liked it. I think the cast were chosen perfectlyfor the characters they had to play. They both had the right attitude and it couldn't have been the same if anyone else had done it. Even the daughters are funny played by Erika Christensen who you might have seen in Swimfan and Eva Amurri who all the way through the film has this terrible habit of making a horrible noise with her throat. Even Lavinia's husband is shocked to see that she has a friend like Suzette. The cast are great and even Harry's character was necessary without him Suzette might have not done many things either. The DVD has special features on it there is a Blooper real with all of the mistakes made during filming which lasts foru around 5-10 minutes. There is also Interactive Menus, Scene selection and an audio commentary by the director which I have not yet watched. There is an HBO special too
, there are not as many special features as some DVD's but I was really happy with them I don't know what other things could have been added. You can buy this on http://www.play.com or like I did through EBAY I got a great offer on it there. This film is a 15 certificate. There are only English subtitles on this DVD no other languages. It is a widescreen DVD also. If you do decide to buy this I hope you like it.
