... stranger. Eventually, sheds his skin and mutates into a fully fledged insect-thing, before going on a fairly respectable rampage..... I have to admit, the direction behind this film isn't bad at all, which is quite surprising given the complete lack of any talent Phillipe Mora displayed with his later 'works'. This film plays on it's Southern U.S. location quite well, and manages to drum up quite an atmosphere, with some effective shots of dark old houses and misty swamps. Don't be put off by the fact that the director of this flick was also responsible for the utterly awful 'Howling 2' and 'Howling 3'. This is actually not a bad little film, rich in Southern-gothic atmosphere, and with a few neat special effects. Our tale begins in the past, when an unfortunate young woman is molested by an unpleasant swamp creature. Fast-forward to what was then the present day, as the birth of this unholy union, now grown to a young man, returns to his home town.
