Advantages: Thoughtful with great performances

Disadvantages: Not to everyone taste

This 1983 film boasts a stella cast and it is a great, dramatic film that is powerfully delivered with some excellent performances. The film centres on the lives of a group of friends who over time have drifted apart however they are reunited to attend the funeral of one of their group.

These college friends are by now all successful in their own ways however they are very different people to those who left college a dozen or so years before while the dead man was arguably the cleverest of them all he was also probably the least successful.

This is a film that survives on the relative quality of the script and the performances of those delivering what is some very clever and insightful dialogue, some times when you have a cast of big names they all try to out perform each other however this does not ahppen with this film and instead you get a wel constructed and moving drama which certainly has its poignant moments.

Both Glen Close and Kevin Kline are excellent in this film although to be honest there are no really bad performances, they are all pretty good. If you like high octane films then this is not for you however if you are looking for a thoughtful film with quality dialogue then this is a film to see.
