I have to admit, I had to focus to understand a lot of the film. It is a classic murder mystery tale, with many characters and relationships that it is important to keep track of. Adapted from the Raymond Chandler novel of the same name, and offered as an alternative to the 1946 film adaptation, starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, this 1978 film has a host of big names applying their varying acting skills an attempt to make a success of the remake. Robert Mitchum takes top billing as Chandler's PI Philip Marlowe, as he embarks on a twisted tale of blackmail and murder.
