Advantages: you can watch any show without having to rewind or fastforwrd

Disadvantages: no extra features at all, straight videotape to dvd conversion

I love the Black Adder Series and eagerly awaited its release on DVD. However, I was greatly disappointed by the first DVD release.

While I can now watch the entire first series without having to rewind or fastforward the tape, I did not find the picture or the sound quality of the programmes to be greatly improved. Additionally, the DVD was not enhanced with any features. One of the things that I love about DVDs is the interactivity or extra information they generally contain that videotapes lack. Unfortunately, this DVD did not contain any extra commentary by any of the actors on the making of the first series, it didn't contain any explanation of any of the jokes that one might only understand on a superficial level, nor did it try to link the series at all with true historical events. The only "extra" feature on the DVD was the option to watch the shows in different languages. Whoopee! I was greatly underwhelmed by this release and hope that future releases will have some sort of "extra" for the interested fans.

I agree completely - I also bought this DVD expecting a few extras and better quality, very dissapointed. Although, being a sad fan, I'd probably have bought it anyway!
