Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Terrible Camera, Boring film
When I rented The Blair Witch Project on video, I was expecting something brilliant and full of action. I realised as soon as it started it wasn't going to be like that. In the beginning you see the 3 young adults getting ready for their trip, which is a very boring start. After about 20 minutes of pure rubbish, the gang enter the woods. The bad language starts here, and doesn't stop until the end of the film. The rest of the film is very pathetic: people going missing, noises in the middle of the night and things hanging from trees etc.. What makes it worse is the shakey camera being flung around left, right and centre! If the story was actually true, it might of been slightly better- but it's really just a load of crap!

crispy - 04/09/01 I don't get how people can have such huge misconceptions about this film. Surely everyone knows about how it was made for an absolute pittance (mere thousands of dollars) by a couple of film students? Money like that doesn't buy huge CG special effects.
A lot of people seem to have found the ending disappointing too. This is a little weird. The whole concept is that the kids disappeared - it's supposed to be ambiguous. If the film showed them being ripped apart by a big monster 'Blair Witch' then that mystery is lost.
As an exercise showing that a film can generate extreme tension and real fear without showing anything graphic and with effectively a zero budget, it is a huge success. |
