... setting is in the 50s rather than the modern day) with some excellent and genuinely frightening gunge-and-latex-based special effects. There are plenty of great scares on offer, such as when one character gets sucked down a plughole, or when another is attacked from above, the blob enveloping his body whilst his girlfiriend pulls desperately at his free arm, only for the arm to come away in her hands. Faces are melted; local sweethearts are dissolved alive as they make out in their cars; and in one wonderfully self-refer...more

Premium Review The Blob (DVD): Aaaaarghhh!!!! I'm Being Attacked By A Giant Pink Jelly! ... (1180 words)

Rating:

The Blob is a remake of the 1950 sci-fi chiller...ermm "The Blob". It never ceases to amaze me that firstly people would want to remake a movie when there is already a perfectly good one(or bad one) sitting around somewhere, or why when they do so, they seem to choose such abysmal movies TO remake. The original 50s movie starred Steve McQueen and was a heap of campy nonsense in which a rather large 'pink jelly'(ok alien slime monster) went on the rampage devouring an entire town. Of course the 80s remake is that EXACT SAME heap of campy nonsense, with absolutely no attempt to improve upon the original in any way shape or form. The 80s saw a lot of ...  Read the complete review

the best B-Movie remake ever (363 words)

evilghost's ratings Many should remember the original Blob made in the 50's starring Steve McQueen. It's an interesting tale of horror and sci-fi about an alien lifeform crashing to earth in the form of a jelly. This small intelligent jam will soon become the world's greatest threat as it grows after it digests anything it touches. I remember seeing this film on the Double Feature Thriller on Saturday afternoons. In the late eighties a remake came out that starred Matt Dillon as a small town bad boy. I was happy to see that most of the noteable parts form the original screenplay were adapted into this well done ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Blob (DVD): A brillant B-Movie horror remake (356 words)
by - written on 20/10/09 (Very useful, 9 readings)
Rating:

The Blob is a 1988 remake of the original 1958 horror film starring Steve McQueen, the plot revolving around a teenage motorcycle-riding rebel who finds himself at the epicentre of a horiffic massacre by a deadly, amorphous pink blob that attacks his mid-western rural American town, dissolving its victims and absorbing them into its mass and gradually increasing in size as the film goes on. Similar to John Carpenter's masterpiece The Thing in many ways (which was also a remake of a low budget 50s horror), The Blob manages to mix a knowingly cliche, 1950s B-movie style (the setting is in the 50s rather than the modern day) with some excellent and genuinely ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review He slimed me......... (276 words)

Rating:

A remake of the old scifi/horror classic, this monster film manages to retain the great, nostalgic atmosphere of days gone by. I can't really imagine anyone being frightened by this film. Perhaps young children, but for anyone who seen and enjoyed creature features, in many ways its like a trip down memory lane. It makes the ffort to provide the best of both worlds: true, it features special effects which were pretty much state of the art for 1988, and has splatterings of typical 80's gore, but there's simply nothing nasty or unpleasant about this film. There are none of the grating, annoying characters which seem to populate so many 80's horror ...  Read the complete review

The Blob (DVD): Mr BLOBBY (218 words)

The Blob Starring Steve Mcqueen. Terror falls from the sky, and a town reels with terror. It slips and slides all over the place, and devours people. I saw this movie many years ago, and I still enjoy it. I find it as thrilling as ever, as the alien thing, the blob invades a small town. First an old man is covered by the blob, and devoured in the town Doctor's office, then the nurse, and Doctor are eaten alive by the slimey, crawling horror. This movie was scarey and full of action in many scenes. Would I say The Blob is a classic horror movie? Certainly. In all aspects.Good acting, good directing, good color.Good theme song. Now I ...  Read the complete review
