The Blue Planet was a wonderful documentary series narrated by the excellent David Attenborough, and first shown on the BBC in 2001. We enjoyed the series so much when it was shown that we subsequently bought the DVD and often enjoy watching the occasional episode. Now our daughters are growing up a bit they enjoy watching it too and on the whole it does make great family viewing. The Blue Planet series was five years in the making and is an exploration and study of all the earth's oceans and seas - hence the title. It is fascinating and informative and is totally absorbing to watch. We have got the three DVD box set which is what I am going to write about but ... Read the complete review

Five years in the making with a 10 million dollar bill, Blue Planet's Seas of Life: Collector's set is an amazing amazing " 5 disc collection, and an astonishingly vivid look at the little explored areas like the open oceans, Antarctica, and the ocean depths. Disc one, "Ocean World" opens with priceless footage of the elusive Blue Whale, and the entire documentary offers some of the most beautiful and realistic footage ever seen. We follow a unique food chain from the sardine off the coast of South Africa, through the first predators on the scene the cape gannets, bronze whaler sharks and pods of dolphin arrive soon after to delight us with ... The blue planet is the comprehensive tv series, on the history of the oceans. Narrated by David Attenborough, there are some fantastic images and you will discover creatures that you have never seen or heard of before. This series looks at the various different types of habitats and how each of the creatures living in them survive. The soundtrack is composed by George Fenton and really fits in well with the images adding drama and suspense when needed.
