The Boat that Rocked is a film set in the 1960's in which a group of people own and operate a radio station, postioned off mainland England. The reason for this is that they play riské music as opposed to the conservative BBC radio. Of course, the police don't like this too much; hence the fact it is stationed away from England - avoiding arrest.

It is directed by Richard Curtis and so has the same infectious British humour as other films of it's type, such as Notting Hill. In keeping with the British theme - the cast is mainly British enabling the script and type of comedy to be portrayed well. However, the main crazy, in your face performance comes from the actor from America - Phillip Seymour Hoffman. The DJ brings a nice contrast to the dry wit of the British type comedy.

There are some downsides. Firstly, I found that it wasn't necessarily too long but the plot could have developed a lot faster. As a result it gives the impression that the film is lot longer than it actually is and so can drag out a bit. Secondly, the jokes are heavily based on the political antics at that time; even though I like sophisticated humour it did get a little irritating having to listen to it all through the film.

I would recommend it, it is funny and quite cleverly produced - although this type of English humour is not to everyone's taste; but I liked it.
