Advantages: Great cast, Very funny, Soundtrack
Disadvantages: it's not genius or anything, but I wouldn't want it to be
Richard Curtis and Team have done it again.
With an excellend Brit cast, including Kenneth Brannagh, Rhys Ifans and Nick Frost, as well as Philip Seymour Hoffman and my favourite man of this year Rhys Darby (who is just amazing in this and everything else), this was bound to be a hit.
Basic concept- a pirate radio station, literally out at sea, is encouraging the youth of the 60s to be too freespirited, listening to that bad bad rock'roll, so the government wants to shut it down. The problem? Everyone loves it.
It's a fairly simple idea, but it's filmed brilliantly, a lot of humour and a rather fantastic soundtrack. It made me want to be a part of it, which any good story does. The intertwining connection of a young boy Carl coming aboard the ship, trying to find his father and pretty much just trying to get laid, is humorous, especially with a promiscuous Emma Thompson playing Mum.
And let's not forget Chris O'Dowd of I.T Crowd fame, who was just absolutely brilliant as'Simple Simon'.
An enjoyable time that reminded me we still have British Talent.
Summary: Great fun
