Advantages: Very funny
Disadvantages: None
This film lasts for 2 hours and 25 minutes however it s 2hrs and 25 mns of pure entertainment and is packed with some great performances and some nice comic moments.
Written and directed by Richard Curtis the film is set in the sixties and tells the story of the pirate radio stations that used to broadcast from boats in the sea of the coast of the UK as a way of by passing the pure monopoly held by the BBC and to reach a young audience who wanted something different from their radio and the governments attempts to close down the stations.
The story focuses on the hedonistic life led by the ships occupants with lots of drugs and women being bought onto the boat from the mainland, there is certainly an adults only feel to this comedy which is quite raucous in places. Bill Nighy plays the rather more sensible head of the station while Rhys Ifans and Phillip Seymour Hoffman are just superb in their roles, the authority figure is played by Kenneth Branagh (in the description above Dooyoo call him Kevin lol) in the role of a local MP from the coastal constituency.
This film is an absolute riot and it has a superb sound track which really helps to createthe right atmosphere. I found it to be wonderfully amusing with some excellently under stated comedy at times and then some fiull on in your face humour on other occasions, the overall mix works well and the film is highly recommended.
Summary: Great comedy
