Disadvantages: Not as good as the book
Don't you just hate the feeling when you go to watch a movie that you have made of one of your favourite books?
Will it match what you have in your mind?
Will they screw it up?
What will they take out?
Well, that was my problem with this film. Jeffrey Deaver's book was awesome, as are all of his other books, so I was so worried that they would screw it up that I never went to see it.
Eventually, when it came on Digital Pay per view, i watched it.
My worst fears were not realised. they have made a very good attempt at putting across the helplessness Lincoln Rhyme feels as a quadriplegic, but the outstanding brain that still functions behind the destroyed body. For some reason, my mental image of Lincoln was Rutger Hauer, but in the film they have used Denzel Washington which works quite well. Usually, he uses his height in films to put across his screen prescence, but this time he has to do it all from a bed in his pyjamas. Just more proof of his acting pedigree.
Angeline Jolie is not bad as the cop who is plucked from PC plod obscurity to become a top forensic investigator for the top and most respected criminal forensic dude in the country ( I know that's a bit strange, but go with it).
Many of the grisly parts of the book, like the weird and wonderful ways the bone collector has to kill the people have been left in, which surprised me, as some of them are very sick (if not too graphic in the movie).
The ending and killer of the movie is guessable, but i don't think there are enough clues in the film to get the killer without doing the hhmmmm, which character has been in the film, but we haven't seen too much of, thing.
A good movie, that would be better having not read the book. To see what I mean get the book, and then the rest of the Lincoln Rhyme novels.
