Advantages: Good cast, original plot, not predictable
Disadvantages: It was missing something special
I've had this on my rental list with LoveFilm for a month and it was finally free a couple of days ago, due to being so popular.
The movie is about Irish-American brothers Connor and Murphy who after get into a bar fight with three Russian mobsters decided to become vigilantes, taking down criminals who really should be locked up... or dead. This is basically the plot, but it does it get more complicated as it progresses, when their friend Rocco gets involved.
After hearing so much about The Boondock Saints and finally getting it in the mail, I couldn't help but be a little disappointed. It's definitely a good movie... but it's not great. The whole way through it felt like something was missing. Flannery and Reedus performed well but I just didn't feel anything towards either of their characters. There is some great comedy (the cat scene - "Is it dead?") and violent scenes and it is a highly original movie but I think I was expecting a little more, from what is considered a cult sensation.
I also found it a little strange how they were incredibly good with using guns right from the start. They can shoot everyone in a room from hanging upside down without being shot once. This doesn't make it completely unrealistic... just a little questionable at times.
Overall, if you like crime thrillers I would still recommend this because you may very well enjoy it more than me and I think the fact that I waited so long to watch it is the reason I didn't like it as much.
I rate it a 7/10 which I'll round up to 4 stars instead of down to 3 stars. (More stars please Dooyoo!)
Summary: Rent
