Advantages: Just a great film

Disadvantages: Better to have watched the previous two movies

It's been a long and sometimes lonely struggle for Jason Bourne, since he first became aware that in fact this was not his true identity. Through it all he has had a particular struggle with the now more noticeable violent side of his identity.

In this the final instalment of the Bourne trilogy it all starts to become a bit clearer for Jason. And for me this was perhaps the better of the three instalments. Through each episode of this remarkable trilogy I have found myself at times totally against Jason and at others extremely apathetic toward him.

The film begins in a train station in Russia where Jason has been traced to. from here on in the excitement is relentless and the violence even more so. The ever changing see - saw of who is on who's side serves to keep the viewer interested and at times a little perplexed. The chase and action scenes are memorable as is the atmospheric music which helps keep the pace at racing speed.

It is the acting however that makes it all so real and Matt Damon again is outstanding in his portrayal of Jason. He is more than ably assisted by Julia Stiles, Joan Allen, Edgar Ramirez, and Albert Finney among others. The story is a continuation of the first two equally superb films in this series in which Jason slowly discovers his true identity, and is continually hounded and hunted by the intelligence services of the USA who wish to keep his existence a secret and terminate what has now become an extremely hazardous project.

Directed by Paul Greengrass the film is a fast paced adventure/thriller which has an excellent plot and superb photography, to compliment the equally superb acting performances . It is the pace of the film that gets you caught in it’s grip. Just as things seem to be easing for Jason…………….bang once again the chase is on. The twists are turns are both clever and well thought out, leaving the viewer sometimes not as sure as they were on the possible outcome or outcomes of this great film.

As the film climax’s I am once again left in a position where I am in two minds as to whether I’m on Jason’s side or not, it is perhaps this in and out trust that makes the film even more engaging. It just simply pounds from start to finish with the odd little calm to allow you to catch your breath.

Excellent performances by all involved including background staff have ended up with the production of film which shall have you on and off you seat and engrossed from start to finish. This is a superb film but it is definitely advisable to have watched the first to films in the trilogy before encountering on a viewing, or you may find yourself totally confused and be to engrossed in figuring out what is what that you miss the enjoyment of a brilliant film.

Summary: A great action film with superb performances from all concerned.

I wouldnt bet on this being the last one as Damon has already said he would do another with the same director!
