Director: Neil Jordan Cast: Naveen Andrews, Jodie Foster, Terrence Howard, Mary Steenburgen Release Date: September 14th, 2007 (US), September 28th, 2007 (UK) Certificate: R (US), 18 (UK) Neil Jordan cemented himself as a director to watch in 1992 with his highly controversial film The Crying Game, a film known for its subversion of gender roles. Jordan's latest picture, The Brave One, seeks to repeat this pattern - it is essentially oestrogen-induced revenge fare, a Death Wish minus the testosterone, if you will, with a slight dash of Falling Down to it, also. (film only review) Although Jodie Foster has starred in more than 50 films, I saw her for the first time last month when I watched the film The Brave One. I knew about her, of course, I don’t watch many films but I read about them and it’s not possible not to notice Jodie Foster as she’s a media darling. Every article stresses her unconventional beauty, her fierce intelligence, her talent as an actress and director and her cleverness in financial matters. Recently I’ve read two interviews she and director Neil Jordan had given on The Brave One, their profound remarks on the problem dealt with in the film impressed me so much that when the film and I happened ... I always forget how good an actress Jodie Foster is, and when I saw that Virgin movies were showing a film with Jodie and Terence Howard (little known actor) and directed by Neil Jordan (The Crying Game, Mona Lisa) my wife and I thought, this might be good. Basic Story: I will try not to spoil the viewing for you, but I do need to give you a short synopsis. Jodie plays a radio host called Erica Bain. She lives in an upmarket New York apartment, has a loving fiance who is a doctor, attends art galleries, takes the dog for walks in Central Park, all in all, lives a pretty nice life. One summer evening she and her fiance, David (Naveen Andrews), go for ... Read the complete review
