Advantages: Good cast

Disadvantages: Rather slow in places and a bit dull

Quite often when it comes to buying films I will read a review, pop on Amazon if it sounds half good and buy it. This film I hadn't heard of till I read a review of it late one night and it got a high rating so that's how I came to own this one!

Film Only Review:

Erica Bains is a radio host in New York passing opinion on the city on a show called Street Walker. She seems to have it all, good career, lovely fiancé David (Naveen Andrews) and plenty of friends. She's planning to wed David in a somewhat lavish affair and all is good in the world.

However one night her and David take their dog out, Curtis when up a dark alley in the park they get badly beaten with someone taking their beloved mutt and Erica is left for dead and in a very bad way, David however doesn't make it.

Erica's life is changed of course forever At first we see Erica wanting justice but getting nowhere fast and she's breaking down under the strain of it all till one day she acquires a gun and decides that revenge is a dish best served cold and surprisingly to her killing comes easy.

Detective Mercer (Terrence Howard) is investigated murders that are randomly taking place all with the same gun. There's a vigilante loose in the city and he's determined to nail the culprit and after Erica interviews him for a spot on her show the pair become quite close friends.

What Mercer doesn't realise is that Erica is the culprit and can he catch her and if he does what does he do about it?

My Opinion:

Never being a fan of Jodie Foster this actually changed my opinion on her as an actress. The storyline is gritty, poses a dilemma and her acting was brilliant and cant really be faulted however the storyline was far fetched beyond belief.

You get a normal woman managing to get her hands on an illegally bought gun to which she has no previous experience with. She then learns to use the gun all by herself and becoming quite apt with it and also learns from the get go to cover her tracks superbly. I cant argue I did feel somewhat for the character which is a clever feat and I felt torn between knowing what she was doing was wrong and illegal but understood her reasons as to why she felt the need to do it.

The ending of the movie was a let down though. Ok I didn't see it coming as such but it left me sort of hanging !

Terrence Howard is a convincing detective, married to his job and I liked his role very much and have to admit that the acting all round was very good its just the storyline was too far fetched for me sadly though if you want a film that is slightly thought provoking you may enjoy this one just for me it was a tried and tested formula of happy couple torn apart by tragedy once again!

This has a runtime of 122 minutes and is rated 18 which considering its subject is right for me and there is a fair amount of blood in it!

Available from Amazon from as little as a penny a copy with £1.27 p + p.

Summary: Not as thrilling as I'd like it to be!
