The Breakfast Club (DVD) ... Universal Studios / Features of the DVD: Closed-captioned, Colour, DVD-Video, Letterboxed, Widescreen, NTSC / John Hughes's popular 1985 teen drama finds a diverse group of high school students--a jock (Emilio Estevez), a metalhead (Judd Nelson), a weirdo (Ally Sheedy), a princess (Molly Ringwald), and a nerd (Anthony Michael Hall)--sharing a Saturday in detention at their high school for one minor infraction or another. Over the course of a day, they talk through the social barriers that ordinarily keep them apart, and new alliances are born, though not without a lot of pain first. Hughes (Ferris Bueller's Day Off), who wrote and directed, is heavy on dialogue but he also thoughtfully refreshes the look of the film every few minutes with different settings and original viewpoints on action. The movie deals with such fundamentals as the human tendency toward bias and hurting the weak, and because the characters are caught somewhere between childhood and adulthood, it's easy to get emotionally involved in hope for their redemption. Preteen and teenage kids love this film, incidentally. --Tom Keogh, Amazon.com

He plays a tough character but once they all start opening up in detention you really see hes kind hearted and he even shows remorse for what he done to the guy which caused him to be in detention in the first place. He is too eager to please and to quick to do what others tell him to do even if its not what he wants. ALLY SHEEDY Ally plays Allison Reynolds she isn't very sociable or at least at the beginning it appears that way she doesn't make much contrib...more

>>>> Synopsis Having been punished with a Saturday detention, 5 students with what seems like nothing in common set about spending a boring day serving out their punishment. But as the barriers come down and they talk about there lives, loves and stresses they realise that they have a lot more in common than they initially thought. >>>> Opinion When ever I'm feeling a bit low I usually slap on one of my favourite films from the 80s, be it "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" or "St Elmo's Fire", but there is one film which always brings a smile to my face, the 1985 John Hughes classic "The ...  Read the complete review

I wish i grew up in 80's America, and this is one of the resons to that. This film watches a weekend detention in one high school, with some unlikely characters participating in. They are all different from each over, and start off hating the rest. However a whole day together and they find that first impressions are not always as they seem. Story wise i didn't find anything amazing about this. However when you watch it its hard to not want to be apart of it. The acting is good, along with the music. There are probably a lot of iconic statements and messages that i don't get in this, however i still find it amusing and enjoyable. It's one ...  Read the complete review

THE BREAKFAST CLUB MOLLY RINGWALD Molly plays the role of Clare someone whose parents spoil her but not out of love. They do it to spite each other and are very bitter. Clare is very aware of the reason for it and is saddened by it. She is in detention for skipping class to go on a shopping trip at the mall. She is a very sensitive person proven later on when she ends up crying due to one of the other people in detention being hostile towards her. She uses her looks and money to get where she wants in life. EMILIO ESTEVEZ Emilio plays the role of Andrew Clark he is a keen athlete and everything about him screams typical jock. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Not a classic at all, incredibly dull (273 words)

Rating:

Clearly this was made on either a really low budget or no money at all. Everyone raves about how brilliant it is and how "of the time" it is. The film is awful, nothing happens. In hardly any locations. The film must have cost about $10 to make? The budget most likely went on the soundtrack artists. There is little to no plot. A bunch of High School students made to take a detention in the school library on a Saturday. And it falls flat on its face right there as any freedom loving American student would tell their teacher to go screw themselves if they told them to do a detention on a Saturday. It's a basic idea of bringing together ...  Read the complete review
