The Brittas Empire is a BBC comedy series that ran from 1991 to 1997 and was way past its sell-by-date even then. The sitcom revolves around Gordon Brittas (Chris Barrie, also of Red Dwarf fame), the well-meaning but incompetent manager of a town leisure centre who is both incredibly annoying and a liability to the facility he pupportedly runs, not to mention blissfully unaware that he is constantly rubbing people up the wrong way. Brittas's staff all do their best to tolerate his antics but events normally draw to a disastrous close, in which fires, floodings, hospitalisations and riots are the norm.
